The London GAA Golf Society, which is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year, held their first outing of 2024 with a hugely-successful day at Mill Hill Golf Club on 25 April 2024.
A total of 60 members and guests teed it up on Mill Hill’s superbly-presented course, with their slick greens proving especially tricky. The day was generously sponsored by Kildare man, Gerry Gardiner of GGH Hire, and included a highly-popular full breakfast before the start.
And for new captain Michael O’Hara, it was an extra special day. He won the first prize trophy with a superb total of 40 stableford points. The runner-up was Terry Kirk with 37 points, while Tom Beisty (35) came third on the count back from Joe Campbell in fourth, also on 35 points.
The Men’s longest drive was claimed by Sean Loughlin, while the nearest-the-pin in two on the 14th went to Kieran Guthrie. The nearest-the-pin winners on the par-3s were Jack Rumble (2nd), Tony Milne (8th), Peter Strevens (11th) and Clive Ackerman (16th).
The Ladies event was also a tight affair, with Eileen McGowan (29 points), pipping Amelia Lawrence (29) on the count back. Rebecca Hatjiosif (26) came third and Maureen Sullivan (25) fourth. Amelia Lawrence also claimed the longest drive prize.
The Guest section was again hotly-contested, with Gyu Lee (39) winning on the count back from John O’Hara (39). The best front nine prize was won by Mick O’Brien and the back by John Withey.
The Society’s next outing is an ambitious trip to Turkey in May, followed by outings at South Herts (June 20th) and Captain’s Day at Moor Park (July 17).
